Pokémon Card Glossary

Key terms used in Pokémon card collecting and pricing.

Grading

Grading: The process where a professional service evaluates a card's condition (centering, corners, surface) and seals it in a graded case with a score.
PSA: Professional Sports Authenticator, a leading US grading company. Cards are graded 1–10, with PSA 10 the highest.
BGS: Beckett Grading Services, which assigns four subgrades; the top tier is the Black Label (BGS 10).
CGC: Certified Guaranty Company, a grader of cards and comics that uses a 1–10 scale.
Raw (ungraded): A card that has not been graded. Collectory tracks raw prices separately from graded prices.

Full Art: A design where the illustration fills the entire card, common in higher rarities like SAR and SR.
Secret Rare: A card numbered beyond a set's official total (e.g., 198/197). UR and HR cards are examples.
Reverse Holo: A variant where the holographic finish is applied to the card's background rather than the illustration.
1st Edition: A card bearing the 1st Edition stamp, treated as a separate, higher-value variant from the unlimited print.
Master Ball / Poké Ball pattern: Japanese special parallel variants stamped with a Master Ball or Poké Ball pattern across the card; the Master Ball pattern is rarer.
Promo: Special cards distributed through events, tournaments, or product bundles, with limited acquisition channels.

Single: A card traded individually rather than in a sealed pack.
Sealed: Unopened products such as booster boxes, bundles, and tins. Prices are available in Collectory's Boxes menu.
Pull rate: The probability of pulling a specific card or rarity from a pack or box. Lower pull rates tend to mean higher prices.
Representative price: The benchmark price Collectory shows for a card, calculated from the most recent completed sale by transaction date.
